Here's what Milwaukee Landlords are saying about the Landlord Training Class!

The Landlord Training Program is an important tool that the city offers rental property owners to learn how to keep illegal and destructive activity out of their buildings. 95% of property owners who have attended the training indicated that it gave them information they did not already know, provided practical information that they can use, and was time well spent.

The training also provided information valuable when property owners had problems with criminal activity in their building. Of those who have had drug activity in their property since taking the seminar, 75% said the training program helped them better address the problem.

 Six months after attending the class 75% of respondents reported that they made changes in the way they manage their rental property since taking the seminar. 83% improved various aspects of the screening process (criminal record checks, credit checks, required referral from previous landlord, etc.). 81% developed or revised written tenant applicant criteria based upon ideas discussed in the course. 69% now inspect their property more carefully and/or more frequently than they previously did. 61% examine the visibility of rental units and made improvements if necessary (trimming shrubbery, increase outdoor lighting, etc.). 51% have purchased updated rental forms to match current landlord-tenant law. In addition, 40% have traded phone numbers with their properties' neighbors, 25% have begun work on apartment watches, and 78% of respondents used other ideas expressed in the training to make adjustments in the way they manage their property.

 All agreed that the Landlord Training Program had increased their understanding of the role they play in reducing the impact of drug activity on residential neighborhoods and 98% believed that they are more confident in ability to properly screen tenants as a result of the program. 98% agreed that they were more confident in their ability to recognize drug activity, 91% agreed that they have a better understanding of how the eviction process works and would be more likely to use it correctly. Finally, 34% have evicted tenants because of illegal/destructive activity, and 56% have chosen not to rent to potential tenants based upon knowledge they received from the course.
