“It is the responsibility of us all to give back to the community that helps to make us who we are.” Milele A. Coggs
Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. After graduating from Riverside University High School, Alderwoman Coggs attended Fisk University where she graduated, Cum Laude, with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and English. Having grown up in a political family, and gaining a reputation as a renowned youth activist and motivational speaker and having interned in the office of a State Senator, Alderwoman Coggs was drawn to the study of law and ultimately decided to attend the University of Wisconsin Madison Law School.
Since graduating from Law School, Alderwoman Coggs has successfully managed several election campaigns and headed the call to community service by forming M. A. Coggs & Associates, L.L.C. a consulting company specializing in politics, education, and small business development.
Alderwoman Coggs was barely out of Law School when former County Supervisor James White hired her to manage his embattled re-election campaign. She got White re-elected and shut down the recall election fever that had gripped the County for more than a year, making Supervisor White the first of seven recalled Supervisors to gain re-election. Congresswoman Gwendolyn Moore (WI-D) also retained her services to manage her first campaign for re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives.
Alderwoman Coggs is one of the most sought after political consultants in Milwaukee. Prior to her election in 2008 Alderwoman Coggs was Chief of Staff to a Milwaukee County Supervisor and C.E.O/President of M.A. Coggs & Associates, L.L.C.
Alderwoman Coggs has also been involved with countless community organizations throughout the years. Growing up in one of Wisconsin’s most prominent political families and being exposed to the idea and value of a legacy of public service has influenced Alderwoman Coggs in her choices of community service and aspirations for public office. She sees public service as her passion and legislative office as a way to pursue that passion and assist in the improvement of the quality of life for all, a basic value she carries into all of her legislative initiatives.
Alderwoman Coggs’ election to office makes the Coggs family the only one in the nation currently that has people in office in four different areas of government simultaneously.
Alderwoman Coggs is the youngest woman ever elected to Milwaukee’s Common Council and is currently the youngest of its 15 members. She is also the only woman serving on the council at this time.
Alderwoman Coggs is married and is the proud mother of one.
