Homebuyer Assistance Program Off and Running

In early July, the City closed on the first loan through the recently launched Homebuyer Assistance Program. The program provides forgivable loans of up to $20,000 to assist homebuyers making needed repairs to city-owned foreclosed homes as part of Mayor Barrett’s STRONG Neighborhoods Plan.

For this initial project, a first-time homebuyer acquired a property on 57th Street in Sherman Park from the City for $14,500. Between the City’s Homebuyer Assistance and a bank loan, the buyer will invest $65,000 in needed repairs to the property. The buyer’s total monthly housing payment including taxes and insurance will be less than $600 per month. There are a number of local lenders who have specialized loan programs to assist participants in the Homebuyer Assistance Program.

Attend our next Homebuyer Orientation Session to learn more about the program!
