On May 14, 2010 he was promoted to captain and assigned to District 3. Captain Brunson is committed to working collaboratively with Community and Faith Based Organizations, and all community stakeholders to reduce crime, fear and disorder in District 3.

Captain Michael J. Brunson Sr. joined the Milwaukee Police Department in December 1995. He was assigned to Districts 4 and 5 as an officer and was promoted to sergeant in 2000. As a sergeant, he was assigned to Districts 2, 7 and the Professional Performance Division/Internal Affairs Section. He was promoted to lieutenant in November of 2005 and assigned to District 5 on the early shift, where he remained for 4.5 years. He has been involved with various community events and initiatives while assigned to District 5.  He has an MBA from Cardinal Stritch University (2006) and a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice from Florida A&M University (1994).
