City Employees to be Furloughed July 2nd and September 8th

Essential City Services Will not be Interrupted

The City of Milwaukee will implement a mandatory furlough program that includes a shutdown of most City services on July 2 and September 8, 2009. The majority of City of Milwaukee employees will not report to work on these days. The following City services will not be affected:

  • Public Safety, including police, fire and EMT
  • Garbage Collection
  • Parking Enforcement
  • Tow Lot
  • Water Works
  • Call Center and City Hall Operator

City Hall and all other City office buildings will be closed.

Per the 2009 City of Milwaukee holiday schedule, all City offices will be closed on Friday, July 3rd in observance of Independence Day. Normal business hours will resume on Monday, July 6th.

With the spring and summer season can sometimes come heavy rains, which can in turn create health hazards in the form of flooded basements.

Appointees Named to

MPS Innovation and Improvement Advisory Council

Governor Jim Doyle, Mayor Tom Barrett and State Superintendent of Public Instruction Elizabeth Burmaster today named six members to the Milwaukee Public Schools Innovation and Improvement Advisory Council. Mayor Barrett will also serve on the Council as chairman.

Celebrate the 4th of July the Safe Way

The use of consumer fireworks can lead to devastating burns, other injuries, fires and even death. The Mayor of Milwaukee, Common Council, Milwaukee Police Department and Safety Commission do not endorse the purchase, possession or ignition of any consumer fireworks and instead encourages the public to enjoy displays of fireworks conducted by trained professionals.
